Wordpress vs Shopify
Website content management platforms have become important for the creation and management of websites. Over the years, more and more people prefer to use such platforms than to make use of HTML tools to develop web content. The reason is that content management platforms offer a wide range of options that make website development and management easy.
WordPress and Shopify are some of the most popular content management platforms that are used by a wide range of businesses. Each platform offers users a different form of experience. Therefore, a user usually selects either of the platforms to develop their web content depending on what they want to achieve.
WordPress
WordPress is a content management platform that offers users free and paid tools to create websites. The WordPress platform consists of a combination of themes and plugins that allow a user to publish and update their website. Therefore, users can create different types of websites and pages such as forums, online stores, and much more using WordPress. Likewise, WordPress lets users manage blogs and mailing lists.
In general, WordPress has two versions, which are Hosted and Self-hosted.
Self-hosted
The self-hosted version of WordPress allows a user to install the WordPress application on their web server. Therefore, a user can utilize several tools, themes, and plugins to create web content using open-sourced resources.
Hosted
The hosted version of WordPress is a paid software service tool, which allows users to access several tools to create website content at a monthly cost. This version of WordPress is quite similar to Shopify.
Shopify
Shopify, on the other hand, is a web content management application that is skewed towards the creation of online shops or stores for merchants of all types. Just like WordPress, it gives the user a wide range of themes and templates to choose from and develop unique online content for the sale of goods and services. Unlike WordPress, a user can get the best out of it without having any web design expertise. Nonetheless, the Shopify platform allows users to customize their websites using CSS and HTML.
Comparison Between Shopify and WordPress
Some of the differences between Shopify and WordPress are discussed under the following headings.
Types of Users
WordPress user includes a wide range of individuals such as web developers, non-technical persons and more. On the other hand, most Shopify users include people with limited design skills and limited budgets.
Cost
The cost of using WordPress depends on what a user wants. Although there are free tools on the platform, a user needs to purchase templates, plugins, and e-commerce tools to have access to premium features. These tools are offered by different vendors and a user must renew their subscription each year to have access to these features.
Shopify offers three plans, which are Basic Shopify, Shopify, and Advanced Shopify, which cost $29, $79, and $299, respectively. As a result, a user may select any of these and pay the cost per month to gain access to the tools that are offered.
