Getting Started with Shopify

As a content management system, Shopify offers the resources needed to run an online shop based on a monthly subscription. It lets users access an administrative panel, which allows for the addition of products for sale. Likewise, it allows a user to input store information and the ability to process orders from clients.

Shopify has a basic monthly subscription of $29, which gives a user access to the basic features that are offered by the platform. For more accessibility, a user can opt for a higher subscription plan. Regardless of the type of plan a subscriber selects, the process of setting up a Shopify account and website is similar.

Setting Up the Shopify Account

The first step of using Shopify involves opening an account. A user signs up for the services and is given a 14-day free trial to get going. The free trial period helps a user decide whether to subscribe to the service.

Signing up to Shopify is done on shopify.com. On the page of the website, a user is given the option to sign up by providing their details. A user will also select a unique store name and specify the type of products they have for sale.

Configuring an Online Store

Finishing the signing up process leads the user to the main admin display for the new store. From the admin panel, a user can customize the store by uploading information about the store. In addition, the user will input details such as payment options and shipment details.

Customizing the Store Theme

After configuring the online store, a user can begin to customize the general layout of the new store. Shopify has a wide range of themes to choose from. The best part is that any selected theme gets full access to online support.

In general, there are two types of themes, which are categorized as paid and free. Although free themes have access to support, they do not have the features that are available on premium themes. Also, a user has the option of modifying the theme as they desire. Additionally, a user’s ability to access CSS and HTML increases their ability to modify themes on Shopify.

Before selecting a theme, a user can choose to assess reviews about several layouts and preview each before selecting the desired one. The desired theme can be added to the store following simple steps. If a theme is a premium version, a user will have to purchase it first before adding it to the store. However, a user is at liberty to change the selected theme to any other version in the future.

Shopify Theme Settings

After the installation of a layout by a user, various changes can be made to the appearance and options of the selected theme. The ability to change the appearance of the selected theme allows a user to create a unique store that is completely different from that of others. Within each layout, a user can upload the following.

  • Logos
  • Pictures
  • Videos
  • Shapes
